    Anniversary-and dealing with cynics

I stopped into a flower shop to order roses for my wife on our anniversary. Without telling the florist the reason, I said that I wanted 36 long stemmed red roses arranged. His first comment was, "Wow, you must be in trouble". My response to him was "No, I want one rose for each year we have been married". That must have embarrased him because the congratulations started flowing.
When I delivered the flowers to the high school where my wife teaches, the receptionist said "What did you do"! I said "I married a wonderful woman 36 years ago and I wanted to try to make her day a little brighter." One of the male students in my wife's "Child Development" class commented that 36 years was a long time. I told him to take an opportunity to learn from someone else's experiences.
Sorry for the rambling but, what is up with all the cynics in this world? Can't people think positively about a situation? I've been blessed by this beautiful woman and I just want people to know.

Neat story and a great point. I have a bad habit of this myself. I am working on it.

It's so rare in today's convoluted, 'do whatever feels good at the time' society to meet real people who have been in love and remained married for that length of time, people are not used to it. We'll be married 30 years in Nov, and when I tell that to people they're almost amazed. Maybe they wonder how anybody could take me for that long, I'll never know.

Congratulations, and here's to another 36 years together!

There are a lot more guys in trouble with their wives than have been married 36 years so I guess they just assumed?

                    Congrats on the anniversary.

amazing how people tell on themselves isn't it? when their first thought when they see someone w/flowers is "he did something wrong" aren't they kinda saying "if I had a big bunch of flowers it would ONLY be because I did something wrong." kinda sad.

It's something us old married couples have to put up with these days.
Congrats to you guys on 36 and here's to 36 more! (at least)

Congrats Bruce! I truly believe that most men today don't act like they did 30 years ago. I am in that bunch too. I eat out all the time and never see a man pull a chair out for a woman. I took my mom to lunch on Tuesday and watched many men enter the door before the woman they were with. I see young boys letting doors slam in women's faces as the go into stores etc. People are used to seeing a man do the right thing. The floral shop sees men coming in for apology flowers more often than "just because" flowers. The woman at the school probably hasn't had flowers sent to her by her hubby except for VDay and when he screwed up.

You did the right thing. I am sure your wife appreciated it. Hopefully enough to let you come shoot in Paris on Sunday!!!
