I went to the King Ranch last year and the Mariposa a few weeks ago. I would go back to the King Ranch in a heartbeat.
It all depends on what you're looking for I guess. On the King Ranch, I liked the way the hunt was conducted. No shooting out of trucks. We would drive until we saw a potential bull, keep driving out of sight, and then put a stalk on him. I ended up killing two bulls and had a blast. It was much more "sporty" than I anticipated.
At the Mariposa things were more laid back. All of the hunting was done out of the truck and there were no intentions of getting out of the truck. Out of the 4 guys in our group nobody even came close to having a shot at a mature bull. The ones we did see were already running full speed into the thick stuff by the time the truck stopped moving. I did shoot a young bull on the last night with about 3 minutes of light left...and as you could guess, he was 250 yards away and running. I just got lucky and he was running down the road straight away from us and didn't duck into the trees. I really don't think you can effectively hunt mature bulls by driving around. The food, atmosphere and everything else at the Mariposa was fantastic though. It really is a pretty ranch.
