    Aoudad Euro

I am doing a euro on a nice low fence Aoudad.
I’ve done alot of WT but how do I do the horns on an Aoudad?
… as I understand they are basically living tissue towards the ends of the horns.

I assume I need to remove the horns and boil out the skull and horn bases?

    Thanks for any input.

Steam the horns in a metal trash can. Sometimes they will pop of in 30 minutes, sometimes 3 hours. If you boil the skull do so low and slow. Aoudad are bad about falling apart on you.

Yes. Remove them then do the skull as you normally would

Cold water maceration. Change the water every day and it won't stink. Cleans the skull and releases the horns.

Some things are better left to the experts. This is one of them for me.

The horns will warp with too much moisture and heat. I should have wrapped them in a towel and taped them up before I put them in the pot.

I would expect the aoudad to be similar to my ram

How likely are you to shoot another one? If you mess it up, how mad will you be? Personally, I would spend the 2-300 and get it done by the taxi.

The best way to do it is to drive over to Brosig's and drop him off

Whatever you do, do not ever boil anything related to euros. Simmer is best. Its easy to get Aoudad horns off, you just have to be patient and and sometimes a rubber mallet helps haha. Only water, don't use any chemicals for horn removal.

First, drill a small hole in the back each horn a couple of inches from the base, you’ll need this to realign the sheaths once you’re finished. Remove as much skin/tissue as possible, place in a contractor bag with a little bit of water and tie bag closed. Leave outside for a week or until you’re able to grab horn and it slides off of skull.

Next you can boil as needed. I cut some of the top of the horn base off so it’d fit in my pot. I left prob 10-12” attached.

I attached the sheaths back on using hot glue, figured with that I could remove if I messed it up.

Here’s a pic of mine before I put peroxide on the skull.

I'm currently doing a euro on the one I shot last Friday. I am in the process of removing the horn sheaths.

Found a guy in my area that did it for $80. Fantastic job.

                            Thanks for the responses.

My wife puts up with alot, but don't think she will go for the Aoudad in the trash bag routine.

I have probably done 50 WT before, but sounds like this one might be for the professionals.

The Aoudad came off a small low fence place that I am working on in Mitchell County. I hit it through both shoulders with a 6.5, no blood - and it went about 100 yards without ever acting like it was even hit. Took me an hour to find it. I have hammered a dozen deer w/ that rifle, but those Aoudads must be built like freight trains.

I shot mine last week with a 6.5 and I aimed low on the front shoulder, clean pass through and ran 10 yards, it also left good blood trail. I shot it with 142gr Hornady Precision Hunter.
