All set back in the Corner Stand where I sat 2 nights ago and saw 25-30 deer. Baur sat here that next morning and had a similar number of deer including the one big 10 that has been using this flat all year.
It’s getting down to crunch time, so here’s to hoping he shows up this afternoon. Conditions have warmed steadily all day, but this stiff south breeze is protected on the back side of this bluff.

Just had to share this text from Jim…it’s about his son, Jamie Hilton who lost his battle with brain cancer at the age of 19 (a similar tumor to the one that took my dad back in 2018).
Jamie Hilton is part of the namesake of the “LJ Wide Ten Trophy” which this group gathers for twice a year to remember two young men who were taken from this world way before their time (Levi Baur and Jamie Hilton). There’s nothing any of us wouldn’t give to have these two young men in camp with us this week…
“A fine young man that was awarded the first Jamie Hilton Fighting Heart Award back in 1994.
He was a special friend of Jamie’s.
Today is his birthday and his wife had this #99 football jersey made. Along with it is a poem written by Coach Gary Walker entitled
“JD A Number Ninety Kind Of Guy”.
These jerseys are very scarce.
About 2 months after Jamie went to heaven, some people invited to go to Tarleton University to see the state championship game.
We sure didn’t feel like it, but we went.
We were escorted into the stadium on the field and every person from all over Texas was wearing a #99 Jersey.
The standing ovation lasted forever.
If any of you would like to read the poem, I can text you a copy.
Mr. Stanford is a firefighter for Los Angeles County.
He and his family live in Crawford behind Kim’s mom and he commutes LA and back.”

Just had a yearling doe come in close followed by her mom. Both got to within 5 yds of the base of my tree and never knew I was here. I looked up the ridge and saw a 2 year old 8-point with broken G-2 that wanted to come check them out, but a swirl of wind tipped the doe off to something she didn’t like and they moved off to the W
