    What is a tight group?

We were out practing yesterday and the question came up. What is considered a tight group at the longer distances 40 and 50 yards.

I would say 4 or 5 inches at those distances or less.

Personally, 1" for every 10 yards is consistently the best I can do with my old Pearson...

I would expect to keep any arrows shot within a 1 1/2" to 2" circle or better at those yardages...

I'm with the 1" per 10 yard formula.
Shooting a golf ball at 50 yards is pretty tough.

40 or 50 yds I can group the in a softball and feel comfortable shooting pigs at that distance.

I'm a pie plate shooter at those yardages, and working on getting better. I limit my shooting to 30 or less on deer, it's my comfort zone for now.

                X2

I've noticed the more I focus my sight the tighter the group is unless I wang it.

I shoot at a 3"X3" square at those ranges, and try to keep all arrows inside that.

4" @ 50 yds is good for me. Takes alot of brain function though.....and I am not so good at that some times.

When I had the room to shoot out to 50 and 60 yards I was shooting groups that would fit into bottom of a soda can. I even shot the cap of a water bottle a few times. Now with that said I do not practice that much any more and did not practice to shoot game at those distances. I was told that practicing at longer distances would improve confidence at the closer distances. For instance, to improve confidence and shoot tighter groups at 30 yards shoot at 40yds. With that practice routine, I would tear up vanes at 20 yards. Not so much today...
I also shot a lot of 3D and would shoot the long shot novelity shoots.

I think I am going to go shoot today!!!

Interesting. I guess I'm not that far off but I still limit myself to 30 yards max range.

I personally wont shoot a deer at that far but I am confident in my shooting at that range
