If you want to go simple pick a resort and rent a jeep. I love Oahu, go to Leonard’s Bakery, North Shore, Kailua Beach, drive the island loop. Eat some Opal Thai food. Haleiwa has stores and shops. Get some banana pancakes at Cafe Haleiwa. Wonder bars at Waialua Bakery. Book a boat for a water tour…. I like the flyers sport he does fishing and tours. Pear Harbor, and swat meet at the stadium for tourist stuff.

Big island is cool but like someone said above. Not many beaches. Top shape for fishing and or a tour.

Been to Maui twice in last 10 years. 25 wedding anniversary, then again last year with another couple. Wife used a travel agent for 25th (from Shiner or Victoria) on original (friend of my mom and aunt), we decided where to stay, but she helped us do the traditional island stuff. Last trip , we just self did everything. TBH and internet searches are just as easy imho.

We've been to Kauai and Maui and then Kauai again this summer. If you want more commercialized, go to Maui. It's not as "city" as some of the other islands, but more so than Kauai. If you want more rural small town natural island stuff, then go to Kauai. It's by far our favorite. We don't like touristy "city" stuff much though. It just depends on what you like best.

This was our back yard in our rented property in Kauai this summer. It was OK.

We went to Maui in 2007. Stayed at Kaanapali beach hotel. We went up to the top of Haleakala to watch the sunrise.
Drove the road to Hana. Went on a helicopter tour of Molokai and Lani and an airplane tour of the big island. We had a wonderful time! The old Lahaina luau is supposedly the best one. But you must book early. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

We went to Kauai and I purchased The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook. Best trip we’ve ever taken. Loads of good info on hikes, restaurants, hotels, etc.

I won a trip to Maui on a McDonald’s french fry sticker and went to the Big Island when my son played in the Hawaii Bowl. Maui is amazing for its astonishing beauty. Road to Hana is a must. BI is beautiful as well but you have to like people. Pearl Harbor has to be done because you are there. Sad to here about the homeless problem.

Look up LTW Travel. It's always an option to book stuff on your own, but it can be almost like work trying to find the best deals/attractions/etc. If you want a turn-key trip where you just show up, then an experienced travel agent can't be beat imo.
IMO a travel agent for ease of booking a train , plane, boat, is the only way to go ! I just give them the dates and location, class ticket
And how far up the luxury level and it’s a done deal
Did Europe( east & west) , Africa, Alaska hunting, Canadian hunting & fishing, Hawaii 3 times now
It’s basically same price and no internet hustle

We loved the big island. Drove around a bit, but we were looking for a less crowded route. Found great beaches and was easy to find fresh local food.

Been to Maui. Very cool! Bring your check book and it’s awesome. I go to Costa Rica these days and like it a lot more bc the flight is shorter. You can’t go wrong with either. Kaanipoly beach is where we went in Maui

Hal, one thing I forgot. We took a helicopter tour of Kauai, and it was awesome to see it from the air...the Waimea Canyon, Na Pali Coast, waterfalls, etc. Also we enjoyed a sunset boat tour up the Na Pali coast and watched the huge titles swim along with the boat.

Google "things to do on Kauai" and the same thing on Maui.

Wife and I went to Maui a while back but absolutely LOVED it. Im one of those that can spend 2 days somewhere and then i'm ready to be home. That was the only vacation where i actually wanted to stay longer. We stayed at a condo in Lahaina right on the beach and I ordered a bunch of meat from Omaha steaks and had it delivered to our condo. Food is EXPENSIVE out there. We cooked almost all our meals right there on the beach at our condo. Surfing lessons, helicopter rides, deep sea fishing, zip lines, and went to a luau...it was a great time!! Congrats on 25!

Another vote for the big island. Rent a jeep the airport. Deep sea fishing (you're in blue water when you leave the harbor) road trip around the island, coffee trail in Kona, Volcanio nat'l park, drive that jeep up to the observatory on top on Manau Mea ( highest point is Hawaii, other world up there, bring a jacket). We love the big island.
