Estes Park. If you hike you can go into the park and not disturb any hunters. Good restaurants in town. Riverstone resort and Bear Paw is a great place to stay, frequently have elk wonder in front of your room.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say, I am not a fan of Estes Park.

It always seems to be overcrowded and more of a tourist trap.

I like the towns on the west side of the park better, Winter Park area or Grand Lake. Lots of VRBO’s over there.

I took the family to Durango and Pagosa Springs last March. We liked Durango a lot. Plenty to do there for everyone, train ride was cool. Very historic town, we stayed in Strater Hotel built in 1887. Very cool place.

Estes is great. The small town of Grand lake on the other side of RMNP is pretty cool too. I'd recommend black bear lodge. We spent a week there 9 years ago. Cool little hole in the wall place.

The drive from Pagosa, Durango, Cortez, Telluride, South Park and back towards Alamosa. Or farther N to Rifle, Glenwood Springs, Craig, Steamboat Springs, etc. Just avoid the libs on the front range and you can pretend it’s not a jacked up state, the visuals are gorgeous !
I think this is probably your best bet. You will have a blast.

              Solid advice.

That Million Dollar Highway is something to experience as well.

Estes Park is nice but my vote would be Durango. From their you can go around the entire southwest part of the state and see a lot of neat stuff.

My BIL lives near Durango and said they are expecting snow this week. It might be a nice change.

I’m with you Estes. The town itself is nice, but massive crowds anytime you go. I enjoy most other towns more even though they’re getting pretty dense as well.

Pagosa or Durango if you want the luxuries of town without insane crowds these are two of my favorite. They can get way too busy on long weekends though. This time of year is perfect IMO.

The Salida/Howard area is really nice.

I would do this. Anywhere in Colorado is nice this time of year. And don't worry about the libs. I went to Boulder this summer and made it out alive.

Rent a cabin at Lake Valecito and it's a short drive to either Durango or Silverton.
