    Where to go in Colorado?

This is short notice, but it is my wife's birthday is next week and we started our own business last November and desperately need to get the heck out of town for a week or so. We both have never been anywhere in Colorado and have decided that's where we want to go. However I am horrible at planning trips and I don't have a clue where the best area would be. I think we'll be happy anywhere away from this Houston area humidity but just looking for suggestions on any particular area to go and get outdoors, do some light hiking, maybe horse tour etc. Literally open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance

I lived in Gunnison for 10 years. Great valley and lots to do. But Pagosa Springs is easier to get to and has tons of hiking and things to do.

It’s between seasons up there, between summer and skiing, you should be able to get some good rates.

We have family in Ouray. It’s a neat town. Lots of trails for hiking and climbing, and lots to do if you’re into ATVs

Just remember, it's hunting season. If you are doing a lot of hiking, you might want to think about wearing some orange.

Better hurry if you want to do that stuff. Winter is setting in pretty quickly.

Esters Park will be absolutely amazing this time of year. Well, it is pretty much always amazing but should be even better right now.

Just drive, stay somewhere different every night. The Rockies are the most beautiful place in the USA that I’ve been to and you don’t want to spend the whole week in a touristy town. The drive from Pagosa, Durango, Cortez, Telluride, South Park and back towards Alamosa. Or farther N to Rifle, Glenwood Springs, Craig, Steamboat Springs, etc. Just avoid the libs on the front range and you can pretend it’s not a jacked up state, the visuals are gorgeous !

                              Durango/Silverton-Ride the train
                              Mancos-Mesa Verde Area
                              Go to the Four Corners
                              Estes Park
                              Pike's Peak

Find and "Lake" or Creek and go fishing.
