    Kansas 2022

[QUOTE=Bassdeer;16454347]Both good ideas, find a funnel and make all day sits, I always see the biggest deer between 11:00 and 3:00

I definitely plan on doing that. What unit are you? I figure 2nd to 3rd week should have pretty good activity.

I've hunted unit 11 for 20ish years. Our experience has been something like this.
Nov 1-14 see the most movement. Also the most buck movement. 95% yearling to 3 yr Olds.
        Nov 14-16 dead (lockdown maybe?)
Nov 16-thanksgiving big boys cruising. 5+ yr Olds. Snort wheezing, deep grunts, big bad scary fights. Don't put your bow down, your biggest might step out any minute. But we don't normally see as many deer. Also more likely to get skunked. Seems like a couple of does will be in heat, and every deer for a mile will be in a 1 acre area, everything else is dead. If you're near that acre, you'll see things in the deer woods you've never even imagined.

All date ranges are + or - a day or two but pretty consistent. Think we're headed up this year around the 15/16 probably, and will have to be home for Thanksgiving.

I’ve been hunting KS for 25 years and have been blessed with harvesting quite a few big bucks. If you have a big buck living on your property, the week of Halloween can be really good if it cools off a little. The majority of my harvests on big bucks has been between Nov 5th- 12th. After that there will be a major lull due to bucks held up with and breeding does. After they free up, they have to roam further from their core area to find a receptive doe. This is the time I usually see bucks I have no history with

My crew is leaving at midnight tonight. I'll fly up and meet them on the 16th. We'll have until Thanksgiving to get it done. I can't wait.

I'll try to do the same. We're an hour out and will be in a blind in the morning!

Decent deer movement in SE KS this morning. Some does and my son saw a couple good bucks 1/4 mile from me. Cold front gets here about 3pm so hopefully will get the big boys moving

Just had time enough to get in and set a stand for the morning. Temp was dropping as I was doing it.

Bad storms blew in last night just before dark. Movement was good prior to that but still haven't seen the big boys. Movement slow this morning. Temp dropped significantly, but high winds had them hiding I guess. 29 degrees and 25 mph winds when I got on stand. I did pass on a 3 year old 130's 10 point last night. Would have been my best deer to date but not what I'm here to shoot. Any 8 points I want to kill or a big mature deer is on the menu. And does too.

Sorry been out of it for a few days.
Got some bucks chasing doe's. Tickled the horns this morning and had a giant come in but would not commit after standing there for ten minutes he started moving off I hit the grunt and he turned and started my way and I lost sight of him and he must of moved off.

I have been hunting the edge of thick woods and this morning saw 25 deer moving through this thick crap so at noon I moved my stand into it. At 3:30 tonight I had a good 10 point 15 yards away and could not get a clear shot at him. I have two shooting lanes in there anywhere else I screwed.
Hope tomorrow they run in there like today.

I just returned home today from being there all last week. Warmer weather and moon had all the movement happening at night. Seen 1 shooter yesterday morning chasing a doe, he came running in when I hit the horns but never committed fully for a shot. Temps turned cold on Thursday and daylight movement got a little better. I seen many deer bedding in middle of the day even in the timber the whole week. Calling seemed to not work this year like it has in years past. Cameras have been slow except this morning the same shooter is 40 yards from stand. Planning on heading back up over thanksgiving if the wife gives me a green light. Good luck and keep us posted.

So moving the stand in the woods paid off. Yesterday at 9:45 this guy walked by 10 yards and then fell 50 yards away. Going to spend a few more days trying to fill my doe tag and then head home. Bucks in my area are still real slow, have only seen two bucks chasing, the same two bucks a few times. The buck I shot was just walking with no purpose.
