Weird.....I bought several of them, and still bow hunt.

My wife even regressed into those longbow things.

    Same as for guns....
Makes sense why she chose you now. Something is wrong with her!

Y’all keep saying the LSBA is done. If you are that passionate about it, crank it back up. Learn from past mistakes and take a different approach. Work WITH other organizations. Be open minded to all types of bows. Maybe get in with TYHP and help kids get into archery. The police athletic league shined a light on archery when I was young. I thought it was a waste. But something about it still caught my attention and I got hooked. I bowhunted a ton in my early 20s and late teens. I don’t have as much time now but I’ll get a wild hair and go thwack one every now and then.

      Our Needs

I appreciate all that the LSBA has done over the decades and would love to see the org going again. But I think the big question is what do we as Texas bowhunters need and how could the org help facilitate those needs? As it is now, there is not much in the way of attacks on bowhunting rights. If there were, the org would be more relevant. The other thing that hurt was TPWD's unwillingness to even pretend to care about bowhunting/bowfishing rights. Maybe things will change under the new leadership (hopefully). In the meantime, what would you all say, as bowhunters, is the big need within the archery/bowhunting community? Spreading the sport often comes up but other orgs like NASP, 4H, USA Archery, TYHP, and local 3D clubs/orgs are doing that already. So what do YOU think is a universal need shared by almost all Texas bowhunters?

I think we as archers need more places to go and practice our trade. I remember living in the woodlands and would go spend hours at the free range right down the road by Carters Country. I wish we had more of those especially down here in S.Tx.

A shorter gun season, xbows out of archery season

More public land that is archery only - compound, trad with allowing xbow hunters in the later portion of the season access in these lands.

Hunters that have true disabilities be allowed to hunt with xbow during archery season, all others see above

These things would create more participation by avid hunters. I am not opposed to a special season for trad hunters.

People will take the easy way out or easy solution which for avid hunters is to buy an xbow and be out the door versus learning how to shoot a bow effectively. Just human nature, so that reduces the amount of hunters that will willing pick a bow, especially now with xbow so popular and our culture wanting quick fixes

When I was last involved, it was still supporting school archery programs and kids hunts. New president wanted people to be 100% committed and I didn’t feel I could live up to his expectations because life gets in the way. I stepped out so he could get someone else to step up. Haven’t heard anything about them the last several years.

Hate to beat a dead horse but some of the die hard LSBA folks brow beat me so hard in the good old days I might as well throw some more on here.

My late Uncle who owned a archery shop said it best, the shops will keep 1-2 or two xbows on the rack but when the easy way crowd saw the price, but there’s a cheaper compound next to it they’ll take the bow every time. I remember him saying he sold very few xbows due to the price and they didn’t want to work on them anyway.

Far as more public land for archery, I see mainly archery and shotgun only on state land more then I do rifle in national forest land. That’s just personal observation of the APH book I get every year. The death keel of the LSBA was they wanted to be elitists and not educators. After the xbow debacle they should have doubled down on promoting trad/compounds instead of nashing their teeth. As a “Money grubbing guide” back then I’ve never been around xbows and till medically have probably never will. As we speak Nephew and I are sitting in a blind talking about he’s gonna try and work up to a 40-45# now for next year.

peace out, hope yall figure something out down the road ✌

In fighting amongst the archery world is going to be the detriment to all hunters. Hunt with whatever legal equipment u want. Using a crossbow still takes practice( i don't hunt with one yet). I still use a longbow and occasionally a recurve. Hopefully i still have a year or two left hunting traditionally before i can no longer get the poundage back. When the time comes to go to crossbow i will if that is what i have to use to get in the woods. Btw at 3D shoots this year i watched compound shooters shoot 80+ yards on a regular basis. Im more impressed at a 7 yd shot at a whitetail than a 70.
