Anybody have any input?

Thinking about getting one to play around with looking around old house site on place we bought and to find the occasional arrow that snakes under the grass

Don't want a cheap one and don't want to spend $2000 on one either

I second the Garrett AT Pro. Garrett stands behind there detectors. Make sure you get a Pro Pointer to help pinpoint objects in the hole.

I got one from Academy for around $100 and it works fine. Used it to locate survey pins on the ranch. Would never have found it without the MD.

In bought my second detector about a year ago. My first got destroyed in a hurricane a few years ago. It was a fairly high end Bounty Hunter (I believe made in Texas).

I did a lot of research on this most recent purchase, watched probably 40 YouTube videos of different detectors and head the head comparisons in bothreal world searches and tests. Like many people buying binoculars, I wanted something that had good results but didn’t care to buy Swaros.

So I wanted a good detector with good features without breaking the bank.

I narrowed my choices to the Garrett AT Pro and the Minelab Vanquish 540. I can’t remember why (slept since then) but I ended up with the Vanquish 540. It has multichannel and good discrimination modes. If I remember correctly the main drawback was that the coil and lower unit are waterproof but not the top control unit. I think the AT Pro was completely waterproof if you feel like going swimming with it or want to use it in a driving rain storm.

My Vanquish came with a cover for the controller if I want to use it in the rain.

I kind of want to think I chose the Minelab as roughly an equal unit to the Garrett but at a better cost but again, I fell asleep a time or two. I went back and forth in my decision before I settled on the Minelab but I was close to pulling the trigger on the Garrett.

After I bought it I did a little searching but got a horrible case of covid, putting me inside of the house for a few months. I am just now kind of feeling good enough to try it again. I feel okay but can’t walk very far. Moving around Bownanza was about my limit.

It worked fine the little I used it, having used the Bounty Hunter quite a bit and understanding the process.
