The hole in the bottom of LAMCO S&F

I've seen several threads addressing ways to cover the 2" hole in the bottom plate of these type feeders. I'm not exactly sure why they are there as there is no way to reach up in there and adjust the spinner plate from that access point but it is a favorite for the coons to do so. I've seen basically hubs added over the hole etc but I think I came up with an ingenious solution if I do say so myself.

I ordered a couple 3" strong magnets. That way if there ever was a need to access the portal, one can remove the magnet. I don't think the coons will be able to do so but guess we'll find out soon enough

Funny timing, I just had these plates made this morning. I am going to drill a little hole in the center where the bottom of the spinner hangs then screw these in from the bottom. I am having major coon issues with that hole on the bottom as well.

On ours, the spinner plate shaft doesn't actually dip into the bottom plate opening. The offset of the plate thickness will be only extra I am going to give with the magnet mounting from the bottom.

Just make sure your screws are short enough to not get in the way of the spinner ...

No doubt, thinking 3/4" should do the trick

Those magnets may interfere with the motor spinning. Have you tried them? I’m assuming you haven’t installed them yet.

Post the link to the ones you bought please. I’m curious to see if they will actually work and let the motor spin like it does without the magnet

No it’s still the best one even without it.

Is this some dumb addition to the newer ones? None of mine have the hole.

You sure? Mine is almost 4 years old and has them.

I never noticed it until the coons started showing me it on camera.

Positive. Mine aren't even round on the bottom. Octagon shaped plates. Probably 6-7 years old now. Had to remove one once when the screw holding the spinner plate came loose. Twas no fun.

I like your biscuit pan idea, but so far I’m just at the duct tape over the hole idea. I believe you had mentioned that fix as well.
