Probably because people want $20 and hour to do monkey work

You ever built a bow string or priced the material that goes into building one?

Or installed and tuned the bow back to spec

I’d rather pay 200 for the peace of mind every few years than pay 125 every 2 months to have my oil changed.

Well, there is the cost of the string and cable. The wait for it, the constant calling "is it ready"- no, did I call you. Then, the work and setup, center shot, mounting the drop away cord and finally setting and sewing peep. If you can do it yourself, go right ahead, you aren't paying me for the labor- you are paying me for what I know.

Well judging by my post there was an hour or two where I might have gotten my eye dotted if anyone had been here.
Again, apologize for that stupid statement

I spend quite a bit of money on higher end aftermarket strings....I wax them and keep my equipment in the a.c.....I shoot often but still wouldn't hesitate to run them 3 years easy, unless they seem ready to be swapped....its never been the cost that makes me cringe at replacing them, as much as having to shoot them awhile so everything is settled and I can tune or check it all over again....its just a process that can be frustrating at times if you let it get to you....

Could last a year or could last 10+. All depends on how much you shoot and what strings are on the bow. On a used setup I would lean towards new just because of now knowing. On my own I’m probably around the 10+ year group. Not a daily shooter and had custom set from the beginning. Keep waxed, shoot very little outside of checking and hunting season, and I always store in the house

As long as you store it correctly and aren’t holding the bow by the string when you walk they should last a few years. If you try to move the peep it may cut or gray the string a bit. If you walk through brush your string may get nicked up. Outside of that there’s no real reason to replace them. Cables wear far less than the string, even with a high volume of shots. I buy my string from 60x every year or two years for $40. Haven’t replaced the factory cables yet. Probably will next year.
