Why do I need a new bow string?

Other than the obviously that it might break and go POW, why do I need a new string? I saw in another thread where a member suggested to a guy just getting starting and beginning with a used bow to get a new string. I have a 2007 model with original string. Full disclosure I might only sling 30-50 arrows per year out of it but I'm very dialed in shooting over all these years so I only "practice" 30 or so shots before I hunt and maybe shoot 2 deer per year.

Strings stretch and lose poundage and FPS.

If you store your bow in a controlled climate, and keep the string/cables waxed, there's no reason that you can't get a bunch of use out of your current set, with the small amount of use they've seen.
Sure, they can stretch a bit, but if they're not fraying, and appear to still be in good shape, you should be GTG.

15 year old string, I would change it, your ahead of the game and now that your thinking and talking about it your going to think about it every time you pull back your bow. Peace of mind.

The string on my PSE maurader lasted 30 years. I actually shot it for about 25 of those years. I guess with the price of bows these days you might as well replace them every few years just for the hell of it

            Those older strings stretch.

I haven't had to change my pin settings in 10 yrs so can't be losing much any more

If it's tuned and in spec, let her rip. You can always get a glass eye.

I shoot with both eyes closed anyway. Heck, I could kill most my bow deer with a hammer, blindfolded if needed.

Not to mention damage to the bow and missing the shot of a lifetime. Or two glass eyes.

Better question…. “Why do it have to cost $200 to replace a bow string and cable”?
