    Custom hay

Who does or is having hay cut around grimes county? What’s the going rate?

    Thanks

I'm in Milam County and my baler charges $33 per bale, but has a 1.5 bale per acre minimum. For example if you have 10 acres, you will be charged a minimum $495 (1.5 x 10 x $33). His bales are heavy 5x6, net wrap. I really don't know of any balers that charge different prices for net vs string wrap.

make sure you are getting full size bales as well. Have a friend that paid for a few years for bales and when he bought his own bailer, same as the contractor used, that the bales he had contracted cut were undersized. This is adjustable. Make sure you get what you pay for. last few inches of a bale is 8-10% of the volume.

                Good information here.

Gathering the info to decide if I want to buy the equipment or have someone bale for me.

Most balers are making 4x5 rolls, not 5x6 and I should think that is important to know as well

Diesel, twine, & labor have all gone up

I just wish I had hay to bale.

If you can find someone who'll do it that cheap they are.

                              Helluva drought we're in!
