    CM vs. Norstar flatbeds ?

Pros or cons of anyone running either. They seem almost identical. Couple dealers have basically said to take whatever is available

    Thanks, Ryan

I ended up having to go with what was available which was Bedrock. Both CM and Norstar had very long lead times

I know they have stacks of CM's at Texan Trailer in Tomball.

I’ve done some studying. I am ordering a Iron ox Monday once the dealer opens back up. Seems to be the best bang for the buck I have found. CM is overpriced imo for what it is.

I can tell you this had it not been for just way long lead times I would have ordered one custom from a few of the shops around here that build beds. But they are 3+ months out. I got a few quotes from those guys ballpark and they where same price or better for a custom bed. Of same rough spec. Then of course add ons would be more. I looked at a few iron ox’s today and I was impressed for the money. You might take a look.

I had iron ox replacement bumper and flatbed , on my 3500 straight off the dealership lot
Sure liked their products after having ranch hand and CM before that

CM the powder coat is horrible. It’s flaking off everywhere on mine and it’s a year and a half old.

Less than impressed with my cm bed… cracked welds, powdercoat flaking, rattling driving down the road. My next will be a bedrock.

Good news we are about to find out in a few weeks.

The few custom guys I talked to where shocked when I told them to the prices of new CM and norstar beds. They are kinda ridiculous.

I would look at Bradford if it was my everyday truck. Or custom

Only thing better about bedrock is the paint and adjustable rack. Make sure you tell them you want a plug put in the gooseneck box because they only come with the one on the bumper from the factory.

I have Norstar bed I’m happy with but would really like to look at the Iron Ox when the time comes. I have a full replacement front bumper from Iron Ox now that I should have put on years ago.

                        CM vs. Norstar flatbeds ?

I have a question for the flatbed crowd, do you buy a bed based on the looks, or would you sacrifice “style” for quality? I work for a truck equipment manufacturer and just genuinely curious on what the average joe thinks.

We have our niche, and it is in the heavy duty category, so it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

I have an issue with powder coating. I put my hands in a new CM and grabbed under it and I pulled off a big flake of coating. Brand new bed on a showroom floor. I am not a fan of the bedrock headache rack bolted on. There is a local truck with one and the owner said he wouldn’t do it again. I’ll check out the iron ox.

I've got a CM on mine and love it. The only place I've had an issue is where the dealer stored or skidded it on the ground and scraped the powder coat off on the bottom of the reciever hitch. Hasn't been enough for me to worry about or try to fix, and it hasn't gotten worse in 3 years.

At work we've got a J&I and it leaves a lot to be desired.

I put a CM TM ‘model bed on one of my/ trucks couple months ago, I like CM better seem a little better finished out than Norstar, I’ve got 3 CM beds and haven’t had any problems with them. Bought mine at Star Fabrication in Wharton, good folks to deal with and a large inventory.
