I have a question for the flatbed crowd, do you buy a bed based on the looks, or would you sacrifice “style” for quality? I work for a truck equipment manufacturer and just genuinely curious on what the average joe thinks.
We have our niche, and it is in the heavy duty category, so it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

I want quality and function. Style is last on the list of things I'm looking for.
I talked to the guy down at star in Wharton yesterday. He was at 8600 for a CM. Said the cm and norstar were pretty much identical. CM was a little fancy finished.
I’ll have this truck and bed for A long time. I don’t go through vehicles. I basically wear them out and then throw them away and buy a new one.
Anyone have names of custom shops. I don’t mind waiting and can put a gooseneck in this bed till I get a flatbed. If they are that much better than production beds
I have a Norstar utility bed my only complaint is the hinge weld broke on the back box. It wasn’t from abuse either…… I would advise going to the gas station and fueling up as soon as it’s installed. Make sure they have the vent on top and that it will take fuel and DEF. Ask my why I recommend that.
Less than impressed with my cm bed… cracked welds, powdercoat flaking, rattling driving down the road. My next will be a bedrock.

I have an er series cm that the rails came up from just the heat. Also the Bedliner basically peeled off of it in big sections. Looks great tho. I also have a Bradford 4box utility and I get more compliments on the Bradford then I do the cm.
Neckover was a solid choice but i don’t want a trough and the fuel fill in top of the bed is a negative. I am going to have to much stuff on it and I think it will be a pain to try to keep the area open for fill up
I’ve had a norstar on my truck for about 5 years. Powder coat is not the greatest. One of the boxes would get a lot of moisture but they did send me a new gasket which helped. The gooseneck ball wore down the plate in the trough which caused it to be loose. The nut was still tacked so probably not tight enough from the start. Cm beds are pretty similar across the board. I ordered an iron ox for a work truck so will see how that goes. It all depends on what you want to spend and how long you want to wait. Gooseneck, neckover, Hughes all make solid beds but neckover’s fuel & def fillers used to be on top of the bed which I think is a horrible idea. Western welding in Oklahoma make some of the nicest beds I’ve seen although I haven’t seen one in person.
