How close to a property line? Water well question

How close to a property line can you have a well drilled? How close to a septic system can you drill a well.

      Likely varies by County.

Usually no less than 50’ from a property line (There are exceptions though unlikely) and 100’ from a septic. There are other criteria not mentioned here.

Yep, I would check with your county codes. However, I would put the well as far as you can from neighbors septic...and yours.

Interesting thread. Not something I’ve ever given thought to. Not sure why property line or septic would come into play once you drill to your aquifer you and the neighbors are both pulling from the same, as far as septic I would think it would be filtered and dispersed once it reached the aquifer.

Look up TCEQ regulations with those questions and you'll find the answers, though a lot will depend if you live in the city or county and whether your city/county has implemented their codes.

Our county is 50 from property line and 100 from septic.

Our well is 5 feet from the true property line.... we will eventually have the property next to us as it is my in laws.

Does one or the other have to happen first?

100’ setback to septic disposal on wells that are not pressure sealed, up to 50’ for that that are sealed and can show prof of we’ll log. Every 2’ sealed, you can encroach up to 1’ on disposal. Septic tanks are 50’. 10’ property line buffers.
