Thanks for all the comments. We will be coming down late Monday night now. What part of town do I need to stay away from? I’m looking for a hotel room now.

Plenty of hotels along the SPID corridor that are fine. I'd avoid any near I37 and SH358 or SH286
Surfside sandwich shop! It is our favorite place down there and use to eat it weekly when we lived there. Now we eat it every time we are down. CANNOT beat it, get the crab cake sandwich if that’s your thing. Really good, it’s on the island.
We go there every time we are down. Food is awesome
Kikos by far best Mexican.
Scuttlebutts is good too for a variety including sea food. I agree with the post on Kings Inn if you have time to drive down there. That is some great fish, shrimp and oysters.
We have a second home in Port A and pretty much live down there 1/2 the year.
