    Pipe Fence Height

Building a new Pipe fence across my property. What is the standard height? Finding mixed results online.

That depends on the purpose of the fence. If just decorative, 3 feet would be fine. Will need to be taller to keep livestock confined.

1" taller than the wire you use.

I did 8 foot posts 4 in and 4 out. Seems to keep the cattle out.

Actually I had a calf roll under somehow the other day. Which is crazy. The spaces between rails are smaller than the old fence and I never had that happen.

Nope. Imo Ive always made them to fit the filler metal.

I think 50 ish is a good number.

I always lay out whatever im using for filler then adjust the gaps to what i want and how many spacings. etc.

No. I did 4 feet on the sides and back and did 5 feet across the front. I used 4.5" posts upfront with 2 7/8 for rails.

Are you doing all pipe, pipe with cable, pipe with panels, or pipe with field fence? That will dictate.

My place is mostly pipe with cable and it probably close to 60” tall.

My backyard is pipe with 2” horse panels and much shorter. So as mentioned, totally depends what you are putting below the top rail.

As of today it will have pipe top and barbwire underneath.

if its 60" run a field fence on it. It will look alot better and hold up in the long run. Also much faster to put up.

Neighbor of mine did a 60" top rail and field fence all the way tied to each post and then ever so often at the top. It looks sharp.

What are you trying to keep in (or out)?
