The issue is two fold in my opinion… first, the GOV has been printing money and giving it away to folks like never before…. Secondly, folks that could not afford higher car payments now can and with money that cost them zero sweat to obtain… so it doesn’t hurt one bit to drive off a lot with a new hunk of junk…

These two issues combined with lower vehicle inventories gets you higher prices….

If you were them though, which would you prefer? Making 10% less vehicles per year but every single one is sold OR, the old system, where dealer picked spec vehicles sit for months waiting for customers to stop in and hopefully find what they want or settle for most of what they want?

From what I understand the dealerships don't buy those vehicles outright upfront... they take them on like a consignment and pay rent to have them sitting on their lots. I know I have all the terminology wrong but that's how it was explained to me years ago.

I have been out of banking for almost 30 years so things may have changed and I may be wrong (I think I wrong was once...a long time ago ), but dealers have floorplan lines of credit with banks or other financial institutions. They finance the vehicles in their inventory when they take deliver from the manufacturer and pay the line of credit down with each sale.

Grapevine Ford has been doing this for months now on their upper end new trucks. Maybe other vehicles too. They call it an "addendum" and it was as much as $25,000 on their new Raptors. Sleazy business practices in my opinion.

Heck, a just a few years ago on here the OP would have been murdered for even considering a KIA or forbid a Hyundai..lol! I guess the Japanese and Koreans are off the boycott list once folks figured out they perform.

works like clockwork! The last two housing turndowns we were able to capitalize on other folks mostly poor decisions. This will be another one if folks are ready with a little cash and it wont just be cars/trucks.

A coach I work with went and looked at suburbans this weekend. Salesman told him to add 10% to the cost. When asked why he said because I have it on the lot. Glad I don’t need a vehicle right now.
