Bob's spot on here. Garcias is really quite good (my daughter packed me there because she preferred the caso), but Heberts's imho is some of the absolute best mexican food to partake in the state.

Ate there for brunch several weekends ago. They made one of the best Old Fashions I have ever had. It's definitely a nicer place to stop in San Marcos.

I know I will get attacked for this, but although cheese enchilada's are awesome, they are not how I judge a Mexican food establishment. But that's just me.

I didn't even think about it because I drink there more than I eat but I should've told you to go to Industry.

My parents swung through today and that's a must stop for them when around.

I agree with all the spots mentioned, love Alvin Ords .. but if you want a few nicer places, Palmers is right next to downtown and south a few exits is Cody's bistro. Very good Beef Wellington and bourbon selection

Sad to hear. This was greatness back in the day. CFS , fried mushrooms, great ranch and tea.

My wife was also a Grin’s girl in the early 90s. 😄

Needs chile con carne and onions.

You haven't even experienced their best.

I can’t vouche for it nowadays but back in the late 90s Manas Mexican food was outstanding. We actually preferred it over Herbert’s. Manas 1 was in an old trailer house and it was BYOB. We may or may not have rolled a keg in there a time or 3. Manas 2 was in an old gas station and had $1 beers on Tuesdays IIRC.

Does Grin's still have .99 cent margaritas?
