This is another dang good one, I'll put it second on my list behind Tip Top Cafe in San Antonio.

It's is actually good. Not the best I've had by any means but certainly good.
Now the chicken fried brisket on the other hand...run from it. Absolute trash! I should've went with my first instinct which was, "that doesn't sound good". But instead I let the waitress convince me it was good and I tried it. Never trust a twenty-something waitress with a green hair and a nose ring.

I don't think ribeye or wagyu should count for a chicken fried steak conversation. I am more interested in how well they fry it (crispy outside with a still tender piece of meat), the seasoning, and the gravy than I am the cut of meat.

        Ribeyes feel like cheating.

Beefmaster Steakhouse in Ballinger makes a pretty good one. I'm not saying it is the best one in the state, but it is ****ed good. The Pine Tree Lodge in LaBelle used to make a great one, but I ain't been there in 20 years.

Everyone knows you have no clue when it comes to good food but you did get this one right.

The best CFS I ever had was the one I had last night at da house in Rendon. Momma did good on those venison cutlets, mashed spuds and peas. Just remember what the best cook I ever knew said "Boys, the difference in a good meal and a great meal is 3 hours." She didn't lie.

I never knew of this place. Will have to get over there. Thanks

                  Antler Café – Spring Branch
                  New York Hill – Thurber
                  Tip Top – San Antonio
                  Grist Mill – Gruene

                  I need to try Cattleman’s.

We must travel in the same circle, cause this is my list except Tip Top which I have not had, but will.

Josephine St in San Antonio and George's in Waco would be added to my list as well.

I go through Crockett often and will have to check that out. Is that on the loop?

The chicken fried chicken with jalapeno gravy and mashed potatoes there is my favorite, with some chocolate chess pie for dessert. Wish it was closer.

I love chicken fried steak! My son’s will tell you the best they ever have was the one I made out of an elk I killed in Colorado. I was flattered as I am not a chef.

                            We like Mary’s.
I always gen CF Steak at Babe’s in Roanoke. It is really good!!!

Yes.. not much of a place but the cfs and onion rings are fantastic. Just inside the loop from where 7 east comes in.
