Very cool find. BUT why not return the stone to where your dad found it? Someone was buried close to where he found it.

He said a local friend gave it to him, but have not found out where his friend got it yet.

The weird thing is, we moved in this house in 1999.

Id leave the rock where it is and not dig anything up

As many times as it has DAY scratched into it I doubt it was a tombstone.

But I would research who could advise if it was or was not and let them look at it

Could be whole family grave, probably COVID got them. The word day seems to be where a last name would be.
