flying Southwest with a handgun? how?

wife flying to drive back with college daughter. two women on the road ... they need to bring along Mr. Glock to keep them company.

so how exactly do you do that flying that with a gun? locked in a pistol box, in your checked luggage - yes? am guessing you tell them you have a gun in there? other details?

arrested wife would be bad. let me know what we need to do to keep it all legit and legal.

Fly there. Buy a gun. Drive back. (easily justified new toy for you)

Locked in a hard case or in hard side luggage. Declare the weapon at the counter and they will send you to an inspection area. Bit of a hassle, but not hard.

Send it UPS Red to your daughter through a FFL dealer. Or let your wife pick it up when she gets there. Or just run into the terminal really fast holding it up in the air. I bet somebody would tell her from there what to do with it.........

Call the airline they will tell exactly what to do. It is done all the time but you need to follow the rules completely.

Read the Southwest web site, it will have the procedure. Read and print it out, bring it to the airport in case she runs into a knucklehead. Locked case (not defined, a plastic gun case is OK), unloaded, I'd purchase ammo at the destination to make things simpler. The lock on the gun case does not need to be (nor should it be I believe) TSA approved so they can open it. Luggage should not be marked that it contains a firearm. Get to the airport early and do a counter check-in, declare the firearm.

If she's traveling out of state, there may (repeat may) be issues with non-reciprocity honoring a TX concealed carry permit, if she plans to carry in the vehicle I'd look into it.

Tell them your Barry Switzer, they will let you walk right on.

Seriously, contacting the Airlines is the best move.

I just through renewing my CHL and the laws have changed....I would call the airline for the complete details of the changes....seems that you need a special case with the approved lock and must check it in outside airport security.....I would call the airline to be sure....

Run up to security waving it over your head and screaming. That's probably the best way.

                        What waiting period, Einstein?

Last time I bought a pistol, I was in and out in 30 minutes. This was before I had the CHL.

I like the 'run in waving it over your head' idea.

Maybe have her wear a burka also.....you know, just for safety.

There's no waiting period? Tells you how long it's been since I've bought a gun!
