Mine always turns out looking about like Smart's but I have had hell with vacuum seal bags not leaking. I have tried all kinds of ways and levels of vacuum but some always still leak and that's with the heaviest bags that I can find.

I vacuum seal and freeze if I need to store for a while. I make a bunch at a time and I have had no problem keeping a gallon bag in the fridge for 4-6 weeks without any problem.

If I vacuum seal then I don't freeze. Last just fine in the pantry. No air, no moisture so all is good. If I put in zip loc bags then I freeze it
