I have an 18’ that’s got 25,000 on it. Because I don’t use it but on the weekends. Usually no further than 30 miles a trip.

My only complaint is that it’s a little under powered

However it’s worth **** near the sticker price still. I coulda had more power and more space and probably the same gas mileage from a F150 or Chevy. But I’d also have about 8,000$ less dollars in value. It was a simple business decision for me.

Because mine can take my family camping, that my dually can’t go.

This is my third Tacoma. Are there things I don’t like about it? YEP! But aftermarket mods make a huge difference, and I have my dually for towing/hauling.

Most tacoma owners secret is that they wished they purchased a Tundra.

I really dont understand the tent camping trucks. I guess if you lived in another state with federal land but in Texas? Also do you need to grow a mustache to be part of the tacoma camping offroad winching club.

Buy a Rv with AC and a toilet. Wife will love you more...

My '07 seems to have more power even with 307 thousand miles on it than my 2019 does. I won't keep the 2019 that long. If the automotive market returns to somewhere normal it will go. The downshifts hurt the mileage badly and even light trailer towing gets 25 to 30% less mileage than the '07. Toyota could fix it but has chosen not to.
The '07 I will pass on to my grandson.

I agree with you. I do not see the hype in the Toyotas.
I never ever say I know jack squat about trucks...But I know for sure the 80's Fords and Chevys were the worst ever. Seems like my dad always had one broke down. POS's

I have seen a lot of folks express fandom on here.

Why do y'all like these things?

                    1. It rides like a logging truck. I have several 1986 F150 4x4's. The ride in this thing is much worse. I'd say comparable to an old wrecker. Much worse ride than a modern HD pickup. This is the most significant gripe I have with this truck. The atrocious ride quality must be felt to be believed. Wife thought we were going to give our baby whiplash over bumps in his car seat. It is BAD.

                    2. Gas mileage isn't very good. It getting 19 or 20 mpg.... yawn. I get close to that in my full size.

                    3. Lack of power is ATROCIOUS. This thing downshifts at least once, sometimes twice on overpasses to maintain 70 mph, at sea level, on a gentle overpass. It has a v6, but feels like a 4.

                    4. Cabin is TINY. Front seat has to be scooted significantly forward to allow room for the carseat. Backseat legroom is comparable to my 1998 Mustang, but with more headroom. No adult can sit in the backseat of a Tacoma unless dwarf.

                    5. Wind feel is noticeable. This thing gets knocked around by bow waves on an 18 wheeler like a motorhome. Passengers can feel gentle wind buffeting the truck at hwy speeds.

                    6. LOUD. I'd say the interior road noise on this truck is comparable to a 1988 Ford Escort. Maybe more.

                    Positives:
                    1. It handles like a car in both parking and tight higher speed corners. Not much body roll or oversteer like a larger pickup.

                    2. Theoretical because I haven't left concrete with it but it is short, narrow and seems light. I bet it would be great in most off-road situations.
Agree with most points. Have a 97' Tacoma that should hit 325k this week. They do last though.
                    Joe

YUP. I didn't mention but I am 6'4" might not be so bad if you are short I guess.

I just got a Smittybilt XL gen 1 tent for my tacoma.
I will be using it for at least 20 overnights on public land come next deer season.

The road noise is ridiculous for a little pickup, with street tires..I have had 2,and the only reason for owning them was reliability..I knew all I ever had to do was put gas in it..I got rid of both of em way before their reliability ever was supposed to shine.

I had a similar gripe about one of mine. The service manager told me it was a computer thing that adjusted to your driving style?? I'll never own another new one.

From what i’ve seen on the tacomaworld forum, going to either a 4.88 or 5.29 rear end helps a LOT with the power and gear searching issues.

Mine is paid off, and i don’t intend to have a new vehicle payment until this truck dies, or my 14 year old’s college is paid for. My plan is to own it longer than the 2000 silverado it replaced.

So, long term, I plan to change the gear ratio as well as possibly add a turbo. Well, i plan on adding a LOT of other stuff but none for the power/gear searching.
