I think moisture and rain fall in most places will keep this from happening in west and south Texas. Elgato does it in Louisiana but completely different environment.

Definitely started to see that in myself this season. One buck in particular is gonna be hard to pull the trigger on if it ever gets to that point.

We all feed protein and that Usually runs 5-10k a year per person depending on the rainfall. I probably spend around 15k a year for the lease and feed but I have killed a 151, 144, 153 and a 152 since 2018

Wow that is some serious$$$ and a LOT of protein without much of a return.. Yea I would be bailing on that ranch in a heart beat... Y'all must have some bad genetics.
There are areas in the hill country with great genetics, that are routinely producing bucks of that caliber without much protein or any at all.. True story..

The high price folks pay for a “trophy” lease is often not because the land is expensive, but rather because the number of members is low. A low number of members helps a lot in getting deer to old age classes because you do not have as many hunters to satisfy each year. Also, most people that are growing big deer, realize that they are not going to kill a big deer every year and they are good with that.

I do agree that a strong supplemental feed plan is essential to letting deer get to 8+ consistently and successfully. But, there is no substitute for age and it will always be the most important factor in growing big deer.

I do not know of any areas in the hill country that routinely produce over 135s without any protein. We have a few 160s and a 170 every now and then, I just have not shot any in that caliber yet.

You know it is quite simple to find landowners when narrowed down to an area. Between county records and/or using a service like Basemap, Huntstand, or OnX you can find the landowners with 2k acres and narrow down that "door knocking list".

Have at it then, you still won’t find it.
