    Trophy Lease Questions

I have a few questions on what people are paying for leases and what quality of deer are you taking? We are on a lease in Schleicher county currently and just would like to know what it cost to hunt 150-and up deer. If you would like to PM me please do so. Thanks

I hunt about 2000 acres in the hill country low fence and pay 5k a year bow only. Usually there are a few 150s and sometimes a 160 on the place. We all feed protein and that Usually runs 5-10k a year per person depending on the rainfall. I probably spend around 15k a year for the lease and feed but I have killed a 151, 144, 153 and a 152 since 2018

Consistent 150’s year after year low fence is expensive. More than you think.

Wow ... Thats crazy. We pay 750 per gun (2) for lease and about 300 for corn per person per year for deer that are 20 inches less. I am sure that is nice to walk upon a 160 inch deer though.

Bandera, Little under 400 acres, $2600 a year for full access and control of what we do on the property. 4 of us so it's pretty cheap per guy but our regulars are in the max 120's and i'm alright with it because just being there is worth it.

Sounds like a nice place. That's about what I would expect to put in to consistently shoot 150s, as you have.

I've never been on a lease that consistently produced that caliber of deer, so I wouldn't know.

There are lots of variables like feed, what type of fence, expectations, camp grounds/house/power and etc.

Obviously there are diamonds in the rough but let’s say you have 5000 acres with 10 guys on it and everyone has the expectation of shooting a 150-160”+ deer every year. Would have to feed surplus protein to keep the population slightly above its normal carrying capacity and a fairly heavy mgmt program so I would guess you are having to take another 40-60 culls off per year and shoot at least 100+ does. I bring that up because it makes it more appealing and up the cost.

Price per acre is probably 12-15$ then feed so id say 8,000-10,000$ Is probably the median and it could go up easily.

On a 2000 acre lease outside of Brady, low fence. 3K a year and that covers everything including corn, protein, camp house with utilities, blinds... There was a 185, 167 and several 140s taken last year. This year so far I shot a 174 and there has been a 158 taken. It took several years to get to this point as up until last year 150 would’ve been considered as good as it gets. Not sure what happened but last year the big boys started showing up and continue to. 10 people on the lease but few go more than once a year and everyone has the same goal in mind in terms of game management

thats a crazy price for the hill country. The lease price itself isint, but the amount of protein added to the bill is. That kind of money I would be in south Texas where the culls/managements are 140's-160'.

I know of alot of leases that pay $5,000-$8,000 a year and kill 150"+ each season. But at the same time you can go on 3 package hunts each year for 150" class bucks for $15,000

lots of variables to be had in the situation but yes it can get expensive. Im just gonna get on a reasonable lease in junction. the deer are not huge but the occasional good one creeps in plus it frees up money to start hunting exotics. which is something I have wanted to do for a while.

You can grow 150” + deer in Schleicher County. I hunt there. You have to feed them to get the deer that size.

I fed cottonseed about 3 tons a year from February to September (too expensive this year).
Protein pellets 6 tons a year gravity fed feeders.
                          About 8 tons of corn
                          1 ton of rice bran.

No idea what that adds up too but I’ve killed two that weighted over 190 lbs. one scored 145 1/2 the other 154 1/2.

If everyone on your lease fed like this or more you should have the deer you’re wanting.

Good ballpark is $8-10,000 all-in after feed and other costs where each hunter on the lease has a legit shot year after year to get a 150"+ deer.

I wish I knew how to put pics on here ,I am blessed ,I do have a $1000 lease but have taken one that scored 148 and several deer that are probably about the same from a twenty acre hay farm with a creek ,I only pay $600 a year to bow hunt there ,my son also has already been blessed with a real nice buck,he shot it with a crossbow during gun season the day after I shot mine from the same tree, my best two bucks came from public Texas hunting so $40- good luck and God bless
