    Small Septic System for Barn

I'm looking at having a metal barn built within the next year or two - hopefully these prices go down - and I'd like a bathroom in the barn with a shower/toilet etc. However, my house septic system is about 400 feet away from where the barn will be. I don't anticipate the toilet getting used very much but I'd like one in there regardless. Are there other options available besides the standard household aerobic septic system? What has others done?

    Lift pump...$500
    Pump it to your house
Or put 2 barrels in the ground(deer camp special)

I’d go with the two barrels. Would last forever.

400ft is a long ways, and a lot of potential for log jams.

        I'd go with the barrels.

I would think the barrels should work fine in your situation, but you could also build your own aerobic system with water totes, an aerator, and submersible pump. All in including wood fence around the tanks and 3 sprinkler heads cost me about $700.

They make waterless toilets...There HI but cheaper than a septic system water the grass with gray water

Thanks. Do you have a specific design?

Keep in mind if the appraisal district will tax you differently “if the see it or aware of it”? Camouflage accordingly.

Yes it is the correct thing to do. Go ahead and see where that leads you.

My folks went with a pump in that situation, and tied the barn into the house septic.

Did my own septic at my barn the conventional style works great. My house has the aerobic system which is trash, if I was you I would buy a 275 gallon tote and put it pretty deep till you hit sand, make sure you have a air relief pipe coming up, cut the bottom out of the tote.
