My thirteen year old daughter had some friends over last night. When they got up this morning, they asked if they could take the Mule down the street to get some other friends (a few boys) and bring them back to our house to hang out. Jeanette told her it was ok, but not to drive crazy on the mule.
Michaela, her friends, and her two sisters ran down the road, picked up the three boys and immediately returned home, as instructed. On the way home, Michaela took a corner too fast - i'm sure she was showing out for her friends, but complicating the matter is I'm sure the additional weight made it harder to slow down). She swung wide into the grass and made the turn, but then overcompensated and had to swing back around, causing my youngest daughter, Hannah, to fall out onto the ground. As they turned to look back, they went back across the road and hit a cedar tree.
Fortunately, Hannah only had minor scrapes, and one of Michaela's friends had some scrapes from the tree.
The roll cage on the Mule took the brunt of the impact.

The Mule is factory governed at 25 mph, and with the big tires, it's top speed is 22 mph. Michaela is a fairly experienced rider, but I think she got caught up in trying to impress her friends. Hopefully it'll serve as a few hundred dollar lesson that she, and her friends, will remember when they start driving real vehicles in a couple of years. It may be that long before I let her drive the Mule again, too.
