    Yearling vs fawn

I hear it all the time. Do people really think a fawn losing it's spots causes it to suddenly be a yearling? They are still fawns people...they just don't have spots any more.

I have always called this year's fawns (a deer younger than 1 year old) yearlings. A year older, I call them a 1.5 year old deer.

It has never even crossed my mind to call a little first horned 8 point a yearling.

        I know I know..

We did have a Biologist years ago that would literally get angry if one of the guys called a fawn a yearling. He broke all of us from doing that so I notice it now and it's pretty common.

Hell we've always called any small in stature deer yearlings....never really saw any OCD need to differentiate. The term is received and understood

I don't give a **** what anybody calls it as long as they don't shoot it....

A deer is a fawn throughout its first year. Then a yearing. But who calls them that. Not me or anyone I know except biologists. Kinda like kill vs harvest.

I was with a guy that shot a button buck fawn once by mistake. That was the best I've ever eaten...by far.

That should tell you how ridiculous the differentiation is then.

We don't have a January or Feb like you rich folks..

The Biologist that used to scold us for calling them yearlings said people called them that because it makes them feel better than saying they shot a doe with a fawn. He really did get triggered if someone said it. I think he had anger issues. LOL
