    2nd the Maverick. This is what I have and it works well. Just make sure you get WiFi units not Bluetooth.

      I had bought a maverick years ago, but wife cleaned out my storage and it went. Only had a couple cooks on it.

      What I was always curious about for those with heavy wood burning pits is how the wires held up being pinched in doors. Think I'm now interested in getting something before smoking for Thanksgiving.

        As long as you don't slam the door they are good. I drilled a hole in mine small enough to slip 2-3 probes in so the door pinch is a non factor..

          Thanks. I thought about drilling, but big pit with horizontal and vertical chamber - prefer not to drill. Do you put your transmitter on a stand alone table - is there a concern with heat from pit?

            Mine is a 3/8” thick custom so it took a bit to drill. I have a block I made that the transmitter unit attaches to with a screw in hook at the top. It hangs from my expanded metal shelving by that hook under the shelf.. probe wires go through the expanded metal into the hole into the pit
