    Navasota River Bottom Bucks?

I've had a place on the river in Brazos county for about 3 years. Lots of deer but I'm yet to get a single picture day or night of what I consider a 4+ yo buck. I'm starting to wonder if maybe we're passing up older deer than we realize? Does anyone have pictures of bucks from this area that are known mature?

Good luck I’m pretty sure that’s a strict “if it’s brown it’s down” area

We’ve got a turf farm across the river from you and we have an employee who has killed a few 140s on the backside of the farm. A 150 was taken by the neighbor a few years ago, nice deer in the area for sure.

had a buddy that grew up hunting down there, he killed some big deer and knew his stuff. he says that the deer in that area seemed to top out at 4.5yo and start going down hill after that...not sure what others have seen in regards to this.

Buford, your deer is nice but to me he still looks young. Maybe that's as big as they get for this area.

Here's our typical biggest bodied deer that show up each year.

I might be wrong, but im pretty sure you’re misaging your deer. Quit looking a body size, and look at characteristics. Id say that deer you posted is very mature and prime for killing.

I have seen some pretty good deer in and around that country when I was living in Madisonville and appraising ranches for the Federal Land Bank which is now Capital Farm Credit. I think that you have the name of the area wrong...it's Navasot River Bottom.

I spoke to a game warden in Leon county and he said he seldom had seen a 5.5
Unfortunately, because our genetics weren’t that bad

Body size on mature bucks was awesome too

Neighbors had Feeders on every fence line.

Shoot does and then shoot the buck you want.

I remember a guy coming by the Land Bank office wanting to borrow money on a 20 acre tract that he purchased in Leon County out of one of the Darrell Hall Subdivisions. I asked him what he was doing with the tract and he said that he and four buddies were hunting it...might explain why you don't see many bucks getting to five years of age.

The locals around Madisonville swore East Texas started with the Trinity River. But I would swear that Leon County had some East Texas ways...LOL! I had lots of good friends there.

Our biologist that helps us on our place which is considered bedias creek Mgt area thinks the presence of liver flukes reduces the ability of our deer to live past 5.
