I knew a guy growing up that always picked up roadkill. Usually raccoons but he didn’t eat them. He skinned them and if pelt was in good enough shape, he would sell the pelts. Of course back then skins were bringing a lot better money.

I even saved the feathers to put in bobcat traps this Winter. Hopefully fur prices are higher than last Winter. Some say gross, some say resourceful.

Waste not, want not. It won't be gross if prices go back up into the 100's I can assure you.

And I'm pretty observant. I saw a 7" snake as big around as a pencil while traveling 65 miles per hour today so I'd like to think I didn't overlook a full grown chicken. But it's possible so I looked it over before I picked it up.

The worst that can happen is that I get explosive diarrhea and start projectile vomiting. But it's been a while since I had a good body cleansing and I could shed a few pounds. I'm getting kinda chunky.
Well, yeah, I guess projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea IS probably the worst that could happen...I'm starting to think there are some not-so-subtle differences between Oklahomans and Texans.. And I used to think we were much alike...

We were. Until y'all started letting those dang Californians move in.

There's gay dudes with mullets over in East Texas now what's up with that?LOL That used to be for dudes that are out of date and lesbians. Nobody knows what's going on in Texas anymore.

I guess if nothin else you know we keep our roads clean up here.LOL

I'm just joshin ya. As far as I can tell I'm the only Oklahoman that has eaten road kill that I know of. I must have roots that extend into Louisiana or somethin, who knows? I know people have to be eating it over there in Eastern Oklahoma. Heck there's people living in houses without electricity over there and I ain't just talkin one or two people.

I ain't poking fun either. There's folks over there that are the definition of backwoods. They just don't know it because they've never lived any other way. I guarantee you the critters stay on high alert at all times in that part of Oklahoma.

You're not supposed to pick up any dead wildlife in Oklahoma to use for anything. But chicken ain't wildlife and that's a stupid *** rule anyways so.........

How would they prove someone picked up anything unless they just said they did? Most people aren't going to pick up anything that's smashed or nothin I wouldn't think. "Sir we're gonna have to have you give us a stool sample and we need you to take a lie detector test. Rumor has it you ate a road killed rabbit."LOL

I haven't heard that or seen it before. Everything I've shot just got stiff as a board the longer it was dead.

What blows my mind is it's actually illegal to pick up road killed wildlife in Oklahoma. I would think game wardens would actually encourage it. God knows if it has horns someone's cuttin its head off and leaving the rest for the coyotes anyway so why not? If a family that's less fortunate than most wants it I don't see why they can't put it to good use. To me that's just pure stupidity.

To me you're not a good steward of the land if that's the case. The same thing they're so worried about protecting can go to waste yet it's illegal if a person shot one and cut its head off for a trophy and left the rest. That makes a lot of sense. There's a wanton waste law but it's ok to leave a perfectly good animal to rot when a Sedan hits it. Uhhh yeah cool law someone had their thinking cap on when they came up with that one.

I was driving down fm 133 across from chaparral WMA and a covey of quail flew across the road and I took out 6-7 with the truck , turned around and picked them up , the game warden didn’t Say anything except why not when I asked. Guess if it was a deer The answer would be different?
And after hurricane Bret and dolly , me and my buddy picked up a cooler of live crawfish off the road @ a low water crossing, wonder if that was legal?
