    Heat problems

So my outside unit is making an odd humming noise but the fan isn’t coming on. Crawled up into the attic and the furnace is still running. So should I let it keep doing what it’s doing or switch it to emergency heat which I have no idea what that means lol. Any help is appreciated.

I've had my heater quit on me when it was ridiculously cold before. I just run space heaters and turn the stove on and open it. You'll have it 75+ degrees in your house doing it that way.

I tried switching to auxiliary heat only on my heat pump, and the temp dropped 5 degrees in 30 minutes. My heat pump switching back and forth is still doing a good job of warming. Hopefully it keeps going for a few more days.

Did some research and I think it was just running through a defrost cycle or at least I hope that’s what it was lol

I just went through this about an hour ago. I stuck a pencil down and gave the fan blades a push thinking maybe the capacitor went out. After the push, the fan took off. It’s been working fine since. Not sure what it is, but if she’s working I’ll keep the heat pump going. Emergency heat heats your home by bypassing the heat pump and using an electrical heat strip. This will also consume a lot more energy so use accordingly

It is defrosting. Fan will not run it is in ac mode with no fan to heat up coil outside to thaw it out

Heard that! It’s working now and not making that noise so I’m gonna roll with it!
