Frothy blood from a shot with a 300. If that was lungs he would have been laying right there where he stood. Wind pipe gets frothy blood but may not be fatal. At least not immediately fatal . Just an educated guess.

If it’s wind pipe that deer is leaving a blood trail a dog can follow, every time he exhales. Persons eyes might not be able to see at times. In for updates.

I will be in the dissent. :-). Recovered within 75 yards of last blood. The again, I don't know terrain and your buddy may have seen where he ran with no visible blood. This is why I don't gamble/bet. Good luck on recovery! No meat or bone found?.
