I expect to be repaid in 24 mos.
It's a hand up not a hand out.
As far as getting my truck in fighting shape.
She has some wander going down the road. My guess is front end needs attention.
Tires are wearing funny. Hi and low on edges. Suspension issue, likely shocks.
Check engine light keeps coming on. Code reader says 0430. Had a shop look at it. I was hoping it was an O2 sensor. They said it's a catalytic converter. They don't do exhaust.
Tires were on the truck when I bought. I've put 66,000 miles on them.
It's a 98 with 235,000 miles on it.
Wife's Explorer is an '01 with 325,000 miles on it.
This may not be the answer you were looking for but I would have put that $2000 towards a reliable vehicle or fix the ones you have.

I fronted him $2k to get started. It's taken me 2 years to save this much. It was my nest egg. I had plans for it. Mainly to get my pickup in fighting shape.
He has no contacts in our area. Hoping it wouldn't go through but it did.
I'm nervous. Trying hard not to drive the ship from the back seat. I can see some issues coming up. Having 14th thoughts about this.
Anyways. Any recommendations on how to break it to the wife..

So, your money went toward a mobile tire service?
That is a tough business to be in, your bud would be better off getting service contracts with the local haulers for his mobile tire work. This will be the best way for him to get started and to have some sort of steady pay coming in. Before he starts doing any tire service work he needs liability insurance, it will only take one screw up and game over.

An opportunity presented to give a friend a hand up so I choose to do that.
I'll get my truck fixed up, it's going to take a bit longer than planned, not that I had a definitive plan

If my truck was that age and needed all those repairs, and the lack of those funds could possibly be causing me to lose my transportation to my own income source in the future, my buddy would have to hand himself up. I'm sorry but my income for myself and my wife's well being comes first as does my emergencies funds when teetering on that kind of edge. No way could I give a buddy that money knowing my truck could break down any minute. I just got rid of a 19 year old truck I kept in immaculate shape so I have lived the constant breakdown worry. I owe it to my wife and kids (if I had some), not to. I can be a good friend in other ways. My wife's thoughts would be the same with her income. Hopefully you have another nest egg to repair your vehicles set aside as well somewhere else.Last edited by Smart; 12-22-2020, 07:56 AM.
