My moms cousin lived in SE Kansas and used to fish for them in the strip pits. The only way to catch them is to snag them.

They would snag those all the time below grand river dam in northeast Ok. They would sell the eggs as caviar. There are a lot of restrictions on snagging them now.

I've seen a lot of them while bowfishing in the same area that you caught yours. The first time I saw one I has no idea what it was until I got home and read up on them.
