    Any Tundra Techs?

I’ve got a 2010 Tundra, 5.7, 4x4 with 127K miles on the clock. If you’ve got any light to shed on my truck’s issues I’m interested.

Things seemed to start about a month ago whenever I put a new battery in the truck after mine failed to start one morning. The first crank with the new battery the truck died. The second crank it started as usual. Since then, I’ve noticed my torque converter can’t seem to decide if it wants to stay locked or not under a light load. If I punch it it works just fine, and if I’m driving flat on the highway it works just fine. I’ve also noticed slight soot buildup on the back of the truck above my tailpipe which it’s never done. Also strange is that my gas mileage has gone from worse to even worse.

Last week I got a good deal on some tires so I went up from 33” to 35” and that’s exacerbated the issue. I’m assuming that has more to do with my speedometer being of now.

My truck also had 33” tires on it whenever I bought it, and my speedometer was dead on with GPS so I assume so Elbe has corrected it before.

It still doesn’t start as great as it used to, seems to hesitate.

I’ve cleaned out my throttle body, cleaned the MAF, and put a new air filter also since this all started.

Mayhem wouldn’t that throw a check engine code though?

Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds to let it reboot the ecm. Might work, might not.

Is your truck a flex fuel vehicle?

How many miles since you changed the battery? Pretty sure the tranny and other things go thru a learning curve after you have done that (resetting the ECM) by disconnecting the battery.

Have you tried driving in tow haul? Going from 33s to 35s is a big difference, will really hit the MPG.

With it starting after a battery change, if this hasn't been done, I would try it and prob go a couple of minutes... and check the connections to make sure it is clean and making good one while you're at it..

My tundra starts and dies the first time, everytime the battery is disconnected.
It's a common thing I want say, I did some reading on it.
I would take this question to the tundra forum, those guys will have you lined out in no time.

Lol. I got a Tundra a few months ago and already know more than most on there when it comes to 3rd gens. The other gens may have more knowledgeable people but the 3rd gen section is 99% about aesthetic upgrades.

To answer some of the above it is a flex fuel. I don’t ever run a thug but 87 in it though. It’s probably got about 4000 since the battery change and 500 since the tire change. It started with the battery change for sure, but the bigger tires made it way worse.

I’ll try resetting the ecu before driving home from the deer lease this weekend and see if it does differently.

Keep it in Tow Haul, and 5th gear.
Gas mileage will be better, and you will lose a little of the dog it has.
Hammer down when you take off, for the first week or so.
You don't have to reset the ecm, but it takes longer to re-learn if you've been driving it for awhile.

I went form 32” to 35” and noticed very little difference. MPG already sucked and HP is 381 so 3” of tire won’t really change that.

No clue, but I would have it checked out.
