Really bad ordeal, the guy never told the officer that he was an nfl player, all he said was his mil was dying and he wanted to go see her. After the other officer intrvened and then the nurse came out, I agree the officer should of let him go. Feel sorry for both parties involved. The coumminty and news media is going to contiue to make this guys life misrabale, just becuse of one mistake. Hate to say it but, I wouldn't be surprised if a lawsuit comes from this. Hopefully not but, that's the way the world is now. If it was me, yeah tow my car I'll get it later. Poor judgement on the officer's part but, he was doing his job. And I bet that he is really feeling lousy about it today.

Prayers sent for the family....and the officer.

    Bless the boy's in Blue.

The officer was justified until the Nurse came out, why didn't he accompany him to the ER?

I have a lot of respect the way Moats handled the situation, he stayed calm and had his wits about him.

It shouldn't matter if he was an NFL player or the local bum, there shouldn't be a double standard for anything like this!

      Prayers for both.

If I had an emergency that warrented it I can safely run a red light without blindly plowing through an intersection. I can safely drive 45 mph in a 35 mph zone without driving out of control.

What I worry about more is the driver who is an illegal with no drivers license, no insurance, no drivers training, driving a car with no state inspection, eating a hamburger, texting her husband while her unstraped kids are bouncing around in the back. This type of driver DID run a red light WITHOUT LOOKING and crash into my wife about three years ago.

Did we both break the law? Yes, but it is not the same.

I know the NFL player got treated 100 times worse than the illegal that almost killed my wife. The Dallas officer should have used better judgement when it became apparent the driver was not a threat and was telling the truth.

You would not catch me reprimanding that officer, EVER!
That is part of what is wrong with the world today, good guys get slammed too often.

Wow everything thing you have posted on this thread is in defense of the officer. I sense alot of man love here.

Technically, the officer has legal authority to detain during a traffic stop, but once events unfolded, a little discretion could have been administered. maybe he thought the player was cute and making passes at him...

wink wink nudge nudge, say no more!

Who cares if there were drugs in the car or not. Their mother/mother-in-law was dying. Unless Bin Laden himself was in the car, who cares. get them insde to be by their loved one's side.

That should teach Moats to DWB in North Dallas. I really wonder that if the "offender" in question had been white if this would have unfolded this way.

I am sure there allot of families out there who have felt the effects of drug addiction would care. I do! But that was just an example! I am sick and tired of everyone slamming our law enforcement officers and military for minor mistakes. They are human and I promise they will make mistakes, but that doesn't mean that the should be raked over the coals every chance we get.

Yeah, like the guy whose Mother-in-law was dying and some overzealous cop won't even verify his story at the hospital and let him see her!
