    Majority of these lines are de-energized when this work is performed. They fly from pole to pole hanging cable dollies for new line to be pulled in and then back to to pull the dollies and mount the cable to the standoffs. It’s much faster than sending a truck to each structure, setting up, going up, coming down, breaking down go to the next and start over. In my 13 years in the industry, I know of 6 fatalities in regards to aerial linemen. If you think sitting on the side of that chopper is crazy, you should see them hanging below the copper by a rope.

      I bet the helicopter pilots pucker factor is as bad as the lineman. One bad gust of wind and its all over.
