This is a good question..If it was to keep from crippling them, how come we can use 5 shells on quail?

Same here. I can throw another shell into my semi-auto pretty quick anyway while the bolt is locked open, if needed for another group. Aside from that, I've killed just as many with my double-barrel.

It's designed to limit the amount of wasted shotgun shells and save each of us some $.

This. And, also generates revenue for GWs as unplugged guns is high on the list of violations each year. Stupid law.

Migratory is regulated by the feds, the non migratory are regulated by the state. The dove season comes down from the feds as does the 3 shell limit. Also why you can shoot quail with a rifle in the state of Texas.

Yall aren't hunting in the right spots if yall have never had birds so thick coming in you were loading and shooting as fast as you could get shells back in the gun. Been more than one occasion I was cussing that 3 shell limit.

As for the snow geese comment above, they are so over populated right now they just want to thin them out as best as they can. Thus the no limit on shells, no limit on decoys or call devices and no limit on how many you can shoot. They are being treated just like hogs. Kill em all.

I've never really understood that either. There's been plenty of times I could have used a 4th or 5th shot on a bird after knocking feathers out of it. I shoot a full choke so I can long bomb them. If they're hurt I'll keep shootin until they are too far away. All it takes is one pellet to the noggin to knock a bird down. If they're on the verge of being too far to hit you still have a chance.

Other than that it seems like people spend an unnecessary amount of time loading their gun. Life's too short for that.

If you didn’t get them with the first 2 shoots, you ain’t getting them!

THIS is the correct answer !

Because "Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang...****" doesn't have the same cadence to it as "Bang Bang Bang...****".

It's a stupid law, that accomplishes nothing. Got nothing to do with shooting at a bird out of range, it's about having a shell or two left for the next one coming along.

3 is plenty. And more sporting. When I was younger we crawled up a ditch within 15 yds of a huge flock of snow geese. I had a pump without the plug out and 6 shells in the gun. My buddy had a pump, but his shotgun jammed on the second shot, and my brother had a single shot. When we jumped up to shoot, it we surreal. Every shot I took, a clear hole formed wear a group of birds fell out of the flock. We took a picture of all the snow geese layed out in front of us. Only 9 shots had been fired.
