I’m not an expert. I know Garlon 4 in the wind will kill 100ft tall oak trees if they are downwind. It will turn a cutover into a desert. You don’t have to drill into trees or chop on them. Spray a ring around the base of the tree and it’s dead. Get the mist on the leaves and it’s dead.
If you have ever seen grown up right o’ways that are completely dead, that’s Garlon. It’s bad stuff.

Remedy and Garlon4 come from the bottle at nearly equal amounts of the same active ingredient. 50/50 with diesel is a real hot mix for either. The label rates are closer to 20-25% in diesel, water, or methylated seed oil.
Overkill is underrated, but be very aware of any potential for runoff or desirable tree roots that might run underneath treated trees.

Ive been killing a lot tallows on my place the past year. Best 2 ways seem to be the hack and squirt method and base spray. I mix remedy with diesel. U don't need to mix it near as stout or even with diesel for the smaller trees. The base spray method seems to work faster due to getting the poison into the bark. Ive also drilled half inch holes and filled em with the same mixture. That also works but a lot slower. Good luck I hate them things.

Round Up or another glyphosate product (Eraser, etc.) with a surfactant (that's important) works on them. But its non-selective, so you would potentially kill the grass under them, but you would likely do that with diesel anyway. Some glyphosate come mixed with surfactant. I would at least test this before you spray diesel.
I have gotten away from using diesel here in the last few years, largely due to the fact that its messy and I have found that other things work better in the mix.
