pm me your cell no, and i'll send ya some vid/pics of ours.. he'll be 4 in oct. endless energy. he is much larger than the avg, 75lbs, all muscle. has an insane hunting drive. will hunt a frog/squirrel(fav), dove(fav), lizard, dirt dobbers, etc. we live in the country, he kills everything(only drawback). he kills every cat/skunk,dillo, opossum, etc. we have deer in the yard every day, and he will sit down w/out request as soon as he sees them. we trained him so he wouldn't run off chasing during deer season. we grew up w/champ bloodline goldens.. this gsp is smart. wife and daughter abso. love him, and he loves them. if you as much as touch a rifle/shotgun he's at the door dying to get out and hunt. it's crazy. can't wait for sep 5

he is extremely protective of the girls. if i'm not around, he doesn't let people/dogs he doesn't know around them.. had a new shop built and the roofers were not supposed to be there one day, so we left him out. well, they came anyway, through the gate while he was sleeping. when he heard them he pulled one off a ladder as he tried to get back on the roof. they were up there quite some time before i could get home, he was trying to climb the ladder.

i will venture to say your family will never be loved by any other animal, like a gsp will.. they must get tons of exercise, or he whimpers at your feet, ALL NIGHT...

GSP's are my favorite breed. They do great with families. Hated squirrels and cats and would kill either if given the opportunity. She loved water and found every pond when we hunted. And, when we went to the woods, she would flip a switch and turn into a bird hunting fanatic. I'm certain you could teach them to track as ours was very smart and easy to train. A large yard is a plus as they really need exercise. Great hunting dogs for walking. When we hunted together, she would run loops in front of me and circle back. I never saw her get tired. On occasion she would chill but all you had to say softly was BIRD and she was up and looking for it.

I want another one SO bad and if they didn't shed I would probably have one.

They're a little hard to find at times and most of the breeders have a waiting list. We got ours from a guy in Kerrville, but I think it was his last litter. Brown Kennels was the name.

Brad Boisen is one of the first (if not the first) to bring the breed into the US. He has great lines and his dogs put out a great pup. He is a wealth of knowledge, and I spoke with him several times when considering the breed. Great guy, runs Grand Ciel lodge in South Dakota but lives in Galveston (I think) for part of the year. A guy I work with has one of his pups and he's a great hunter. https://www.grandciellodge.com/

There are several breeders scattered around the US. There is a facebook group called Braques Francais in North America. Pretty active group there and most of the reputable breeders are well represented.

I will tell you, the folks that are invested in this breed are very protective about the lines and where their pups go. They don't want to see the breed watered down like so many breeds have been after gaining popularity in dog shows, etc. Some of the breeders won't sell a pup to a non-hunting home.

As for price, I've seen them from $1,400 up to $1,800 and everywhere in between. Let me know if you have any questions - I love talking about the breed and hunting.

I have 2 GSP's one is 10 the other is 8. Awesome breed with a lot of energy. My 3 year old daughter loves them and neither have ever been aggressive towards her in any way.

They check all of those boxes. Want to say they were bread for "fur and feather" and supposed to be the poor mans all round dog when most people had pointers, retrievers, flushers, etc. Good with people and kids, will want to be close to yall at all times. Mines biggest negative is that he will whine when he isnt as close as he wants to the action. Sweet dogs that are eager to please.

Unfortunately, mine didn’t have any bird drive so he was only used for retrieving and now a bed hog. GSPs tend to have separation anxiety if they aren’t exercised and stimulated enough. Funniest story I heard about one was it pulled a propane grill into the owner’s pool. Mine was also an escape artist. He could climb an 8ft chainlink fence faster than I could. He also figured out how to get my dad’s lab out of her harness.

TTUbudd has been around my dog when he was young and that’s probably a big reason he didn’t get a GSP.

I love the breed, but not sure if I’ll get another one when my current one crosses the rainbow bridge.

We currently have 2 GSPs. Our female is almost 4 years old and our male is about 10 weeks old. Incredible family dogs and tons of energy. They are extremely smart. My daughters taught the 10 week old pup sit, shake, high five, lay down in 2 days. Currently working on roll over. LOL

Love our GSP. I would also suggest looking at boykins.

You need to exercise the dog. we love ours. don't get a bird dog if you're not going to hunt them.

they are bred to hunt. it is what they're were made to do. everything is in mine's life is a notch turned down compared to hunting. he is at his best at the lease and the 3-5 days after hard hunt.

they are velcro dogs. they need/want to be close to master every second of every day.

Our GSP Female, Shelby, turns 13 next month. We adopted her when she was 2 from someone who just couldn't handle her, or give her the time she needed. She is an amazing family dog. Finally really started to slow down around 11, but she will still play fetch until your arm falls off, and if she sees a Squirrel you can't hardly get her back in the house. Very loyal, GREAT with our Kids, and good with other dogs(she just does her own thing and doesn't really pay much attention). She sleeps with my son every night, and I dread the day her time comes. We recently got a Dachshund(kids choice), and it took her a while to warm up but they are buddies now.

Our GSP Remi will be 4 at Thanksgiving. I will never be without a GSP. Sweetest most lovable dog ever. Has to sleep with our oldest son every night. No aggression at all except for possums, cats, rats, squirrels, and birds.
