Lol. I asked them if could borrow a set of spurs so I could sort of fit in. Just after I did a fake spit of chewing tobacco.!!

Here’s a few more pics from the hunt.

Sometimes you have to improvise. A good afternoon workout.

Lots of glassing and planning your next move.

Never got around to a recap of my Pronghorn.

After two long attempts of trying to get on this buck, we regathered once more.

After a quick meeting with the other guide Mitch and our friends Donna and Ernie who were in another truck glassing from a different angle; we decided to drive up to the ridge where everyone last saw the buck move over.

Once on top of the ridge, Dan, myself, and Pops all began glassing. It took us a solid 10 minutes and out he pops around 1200-1300 yards away.

He slowly began to make his way in a huge circle back to the area where we first glassed him up and tried our first stalk at 6:35am in the morning.

We watched for about 75 min or so, losing site of him every once in a while.

At one point he disappeared for 15 min , assuming he laid down briefly.

Once he was back on his feet, Dan and I decided to put a stalk in place at the angle of his direction.

We had dad stay up on the ridge with binos and spotting scope to keep watch as once we dropped down the ridge we would most likely lose sight of him.

We hiked down about 800 yards glassing him up every once in a while over about 20 minutes.

Then poof we lose him, we stay put, and keep looking back at dad as the signal of the buck busting or spooking would be dad waving his cap in the air at us.

No cap!! Dad must still see him. No phone service to text or call for an update. Crap - let’s wait him out.

5 min or so go by, there he his out about 450yds. He’s perfectly behind a bush so we truck it and close the distance to what we think is 300yds.

When we get to the next section of brush for cover, we can’t relocate him in the spot we just saw him.

Nothing, glass, nothin, look at dad - no cap, glass, nothin.

                  WTH

We go ahead and move forward thinking he may have laid down again. We get to the Bush where we last saw him and begin glassing.

                  Notta!!!

I told Dan let’s move a out fifty yards left to get a different angle as we had walked almost a straight line from the truck to make sure we stayed on angle.

30 yards left - THERE HE IS!!!

Facing away and doesn’t know we are there. I throw up the sticks.

                  Dan’s on him with binos.

He turns and looks at us perfectly broadside.

Can’t get a range exactly on him but the Bush in front of him is 257yds.

                  He’s past it so I’m thinking 325yds.

Settle the cross hairs - BOOOOOOM

I lose him in my scope.

Pick up my head to scan for a running goat and turn and look at Dan and he’s grinning ear to ear.

YOU SMOKED HIM - HE NEVER TOOK A STEP.

What a rush!!! I jack another shell in and stay on him.

Finally get a call to Pops to bring the truck closer and meet us so we can walk up to him together.

He was pumped and was able to watch the entire thing unfold from a birds eye view and saw the antelope drop before the sound of the shot ever reached him.

We all worked hard, probably one of the hardest hunts as far as physical effort.

We clocked 7.1 miles just chasing that buck yesterday. 110 degree heat, no clouds, and minimal wind made it interesting as well.

After a 11 hours of travel time today, we dropped of horn and capes to our taxi, we are all safely home.

We are looking forward to our next adventure not yet knowing what that might be.

Thank you all for tagging along and thank you Yelladog for the assistance.

Definitely a great time and experience. Getting to see this plan, stalk and harvest take place from my perch a 1000 plus yards away, the nose bleed section, was pretty awesome. Lots of answered prayers on something that could easily go south after that much effort. Also a whole new respect for these animals. Thanks Ross for letting the Old Man tag along.

And what a better way to celebrate successful harvests with our Kentucky and newly acquired New Mexico friends, a little campfire entertainment, minus the campfire.

It’s been a week and a half since this hunt. And honestly, I’ve had a hard time concentrating at the Salt Mine. Just the way you hunt in that area is addictive. I’ve never searched and glassed so much before. What you just looked at, nothing. Then go right back over and it’s like they came from nowhere. Just playing and reliving each harvest over in my head, doesn’t get old. Yep. We walked a lot in 2 days. But worth every step. Would I go again? Heck yes. Ready right now. Highly recommended.
Make sure you have quality glass, rangefinder included, good comfortable boots. And are good out to 400 yards.

                        Thanks.
