Most of these hunts turn into a once in a lifetime hunt based on the points needed to apply and how so many people apply for everything.

Well putting in for the Draw is a still a lot cheaper then a Lease... Do youth hunters loose all their points when they turn 17? My son has 4 or 5 pref points in a couple categories... it would / will suck to see him start over.

New applicants aren't screwed, they just won't be so prone to draw hunts. It seemed like the system was artificially weighted for first time applicants, you'd have guys here with 10 points in a category with nothing and a first year applicant w00ting over drawing 3 different hunts. The cubing is a good move overall, not perfect but good move.

Well no, but their points are in youth categories in which they can't apply anymore, so yes. Start putting him in on your adult category hunts, it's still free and he'll get points built for those.

They need to just do the draw and points the same way western states do there’s start with max points and go down till all permits are filled

No, no,no and more no. To have a true preference point system you need to have enough permits to cycle through every few years max. There are not near enough permits at these areas to have a true preference point system. Wouldn’t even draw in your lifetime on MOST hunts. Best idea is to go down to one application per area like it used to be.

That’s only how a couple western states do their draw. There are a bunch of different variations of preference points/loyalty points in The western draw system. I like Idaho and NM with none and a non-resident cap. Texas needs to give residents better odds than NR like all other states do and charge them way more

Well since my husband and I haven’t got drawn in years we have 10 plus points in several categories, the cubing would be great! We shall see.

Yeah I don't know stats but don't think any NR's are lining up for Texas draw tags. As for the points definitely hard no from me, would be silly to build 25 years of points to draw Chap for example. I like random with the multiplier, it makes sure people eventually get drawn but new people still have a chance.

Under a Colorado style point system, Chaparral GDE would take 30-40, possibly more, years to guarantee a tag. Rita Blanca would take over 400 years and some of the guided hunts would take hundreds of years too.

With a Colorado style system an applicant would haze zero chance to draw with less than the required amount of points.

There's not enough good tags to run through the high point holders. A true points system is a bad idea unless you like applying for decades or more with zero chance to draw.

Texas is on the right track....just finish it out and mimic Nevada’s system if they want to square points.

Also....add a bonus point only option so it opens it up for those that are ready to hunt vs those that can’t hunt that year but want to keep building points.

I love the bonus point idea.

I also love the cubed point idea. To those saying it will make it impossible to draw at the beginning, for some of us it already is. I have 5+ points in several categories and have never drawn a single thing. This makes me feel much better about my odds this year!

I'm all about the multiplier. I don't have nearly the points alot of folks do. I'm creeping close to 10 though. Was I see it. I'm in my 30s...keep cubing. Y'all are gonna age out as some point and I'll take a rascal scooter on a STX rifle hunt. Only 40 more points to go. Persistence will pay off.

Seems every year someone posts that he drew more than 1 hunt on the same date and has to decide which one to go on....
Exactly. I've been putting in for 15+ yrs and we have drawn two youth hunts. I'm hoping all my luck is holding for the pronghorn hunt.

I have been a devoted applicant for over a decade to every category. I hope this year is fruitful.
