Question on my F150

check engine light came on - 103,000 miles - auto parts store ran test and said a Cylinder 5 misfire detected. How big a deal is this to get repaired? Thanks

Might just be a plug or a wire. Could be pretty cheap. If it is the cylinder, you got more problems. When were the plugs last changed? What year is the truck?

If it is the 3.5 it pretty much sucks to change the plugs and coils, we have 178k on our Explorer and have yet to change the plugs. When that code comes up I clear it or ignore it and it goes away , but need to change pugs at some point. Ford wants $450 for plug change.

If it has coil packs just put a new one on it. The plug is probably fine. They are pretty easy to replace.

If it has coil packs you could swap it with another cylinder to see if the code follows as well to rule that out.

2016 plugs never changed

Mine has done that 3 times. Coil pack most likely. I finally just replaced all plugs, wires, coils and boots. Got tired of it.

I'd change the plugs. My Ecoboost gets new plugs every 100k miles.

Swap coil packs and see if fault code chases it. Then put a set of plugs in it and a bottle of Techron

Go to auto parts store that has lifetime replacement coil packs and replace it (all of them is best , but pricey). Oh, replace all the plugs too.

I dealt with this, and dealt with this on a '14 F150 w/ 5.1 motor. Even the dealership couldn't get it solved. Wound up getting rid of the vehicle.

I had the same issue. Luckily my coil connector came apart due to a brittle tab, so it was an easy fix. I have the 5.0 though so getting to the connectors and coils is easy.

I had this issue with my 2012 ecoboost. I got very good at changing plugs. Always solved the problem for about 20,000 miles. Last thing I did was change the coil packs. Didn't have another issue until I gave it away to the stealership at 220K

Had the same issue. Just had the plugs changed and it fixed the issue. From what I’ve read the Ecos need new plugs every 100k. Cost me $230 at the local mechanic.
