Got an old buggy that's headed to an island on the coast to finish it's life out, so it'llbe in a pretty corrosive environment. I was gonna hit this stuff with some rustoleum or something but figured I'd ask for advice here to see if I can do better.

REMOVE ALL VISIBLE RUST...then prime and paint. I worked for a metal finishing company (electropolishing steel). We had a lot of equipment that we beat the heck out of and drug all over the world. We had severl pieces of heavy and valuable equipment that we built heavy duty protective frames for, these frames were all carbon steel. We nock off all rust using 8 inch flap wheels, if it is really bad use a wire brush (your pictures arent bad at all). Once it is done, quickly apply rustoleum primer (carbon starts to oxidize instantly). We usually put two coats of primer on then paint. We've had equipment shippied from houston to france to toronto to japan then back to houston all via ocean freight and all being exposed to phosphoric and sulfuric acid during our process and never have issues with rust.
