Apparently some of ya'll, Hog76 and PY, have zero personal experience with stone points. So, I ask, why do you feel compelled to state an uneducated opinion on stone points????

Tred Bartas bow hunting leaves much to be desired. I wouldn't judge stone points by Treds actions. Treds shot was unethical, not because of the choice of point, but because of the distance he shot. He was beyond his limited ability and gut shot the elk. Gut shot with a stone point is same as gut shot with a 30/06...lost elk.

    Unethical?? total BS.

Stone points, made properly of good rock, will outpenetrate steel points and do significantly more damage to the animal. None of us would be here if they didn't work pretty good........

I've killed prolly a dozen deer and hogs with self made stone points. I have never lost a deer or hog I hit with one. I have gotten a pass thru on most of the hogs I've shot, except for one 275# boar shot straight thru the shield with penetration to the opposite shoulder. I guess that was unethical as he went maybe ten yards and down

One can mount a stone point on a hickory shaft cut to maybe four inches and fit the shaft inside the alum or carbon arrow, glued with epoxy. Been there done that for a buddy.

One can also cut a slot into a screw in adaptor and mount the point on the adaptor with epoxy, seen it done.

Sounds like more of a bad shot if you ask me

Find a fat target point, screw in type, like the 125 easy pull jobs. Make a holding fixture that will hold the field/target point in place and use a cut off saw to notch it as wide as you need. Then dress the sides with a fine file. Epoxy and tread mount the stone point into your new screw in "Adapter"

When the stone head is damaged or gone clean out the "Adapter" with a torch and re-use

as far as the arrow blowing up, i would be shooting a 200 grain plus stone point out of my mathews, never done it before but i would think that much pressure on the shaft wouldnt be good, and as far as unethical, if uve ever held a well knapped stone or glass, u know there aint many things in the world sharper
